From Roger Wimmer. Darnell and I went up to Boulder to see Leigh at school (he's a freshman). I started calling Leigh, "Whort," just after Darnell and I got married. When we were traveling recently, we stopped in a hat shop and had the hat made for Leigh. He loves it. I always wear my "step-dad" shirt when we go to the University of Colorado. Here is the photo:
We also went up Pike's Peak on the Cog Wheel Railway on October 31. It was 70° at the base (in Colorado Springs), but it was only 25° at the summit, which is 14,110 feet.

This is a photo Don Jacot gave me several years ago. It's Don's 13th birthday party. We remember it because Don's parents treated us to the movie "Spartacus," followed by cake and Coca Cola. The people in the picture are: Back Row, left to right, Matt Carroll, Ed Kelley, Rich Vaughn. Front Row, left to right, Don Jacot, Ken Rice, Jerry Pearce, and John Heskett. The girl is Don's sister and his baby brother, who now plays cello for the Seattle Symphony. As John Heskett recently passed on, I thought it might be of interest for the website. Rich

I'm not sure if you have seen Google Earth, but it's a truly fascinating website that shows satellite photos of the entire earth. You can zoon in and out, tilt the view for 3D images, and more. If you're interested, here is the link to the site: http://earth.google.com/ You need to download the program, and if you have dialup service it will take a while, but it's worth it. For example, if you click on the link below, you'll see the aerial view of DGHS-N and Herrick Junior High.

I spent a little time digging through some boxes of old
photos and school mementos because I knew I had some photos of Phil Whitlock.
The photos were taken at a party at my house in January, 1963. They were in a
scrapbook and I had written down a list of who was at the party: Jean
Lundfeldt, Terry McAleer, Bill May, Sue Malmgren, Jean Konopka, Mike Rouffa,
Don Reidler, Kathy Hotchkiss, Phil Whitlock, Barb Ore, Bill Studebaker.
I remember how much fun Phil was at the parties back in junior high school. I
think we had more fun at that age than the kids do today - nobody was going to
get into any trouble at those parties with our parents (and nosy younger
siblings) snooping around. No drinking, no drugs, no sex. We just laughed,
ate, danced and had fun. The most risqué thing anyone ever did was kiss
someone. We didn't have to grow up so fast back then.
I'm really looking forward to the reunion. I'm just sorry Phil won't be there
to enjoy it.

To Everyone: I have some great news! Scott and I have a granddaughter! Madeline Lee Wilson arrived at 2:24 p.m. on 12/31/02, and weighed in at 7 lbs., 6 oz. She was born in South Lake Tahoe. We all trekked up there from Minden, NV (mom, dad, and 2 sets of grandparents) a day ahead to avoid a big snow storm that was expected. We were glad we did, because the storm dumped over a foot of snow in So. Tahoe. So far, nobody has managed to get a photo of Maddie when she's awake.
