Chapter 17 - Mass Media Research and the Internet

  1. The major problem with using the Internet to collect research data is that there is, at present, no way to verify who is on the computer.  How can this problem be solved?

  2. As we mention in the text, the Internet can be used as a resource for information or to collect research data.  Due to space limitations in the text, we don't spend much time on the "library" function of the Internet.  In every chapter of the text, we encourage you to search the Internet for additional information.  The best way to become an expert in finding information on the Internet is to practice.  If you haven't done so yet, go the the "Readings" page on this website and read the article titled, "Internet Search Engine Tips."  After you have read the article, go to a search engine and become an expert.  You will never regret the time spent.

  3. In your opinion, how do you think the Internet will be used for research 10 years from today?  (Consider all of the steps involved in a conducting a research project.)
