  1. Visit the website for the Center for Media and Public Affairs (http://www.cmpa.com) for examples of content analyses of news coverage. List the units of analysis and examine some content categories to see if they are exclusive and exhaustive.

  2. In addition to the uses listed on pages 141-143 of your text, can you think of any other uses of content analysis?

  3. The complaints about too many commercials on radio and TV stations continue to increase.  Some people say that it seems as though about 50% of a program consists of commercials.  Conduct a content analysis of one or more hours of a radio or TV program to determine how many minutes of commercials are included in a typical program.

  4. Using scholarly and trade publications, provide additional examples for Table 6.5 on page 161.

  5. Calculate Scott’s pi (see p. 157) for the following reliability data:
